About Us

OUR PAST:  First Baptist Church of Belleville is a church with a long and rich history.  It was established in 1831 by Rev. John Mason Peck, a zealous missionary who came to this area from New York to do the work of evangelism.  Rev. Peck started numerous churches and was instrumental in many individuals entering the ministry.

First Baptist is the oldest church in Belleville with a continuous ministry.  Our former location at 120 N. Jackson Street was the congregation’s place of worship for 111 years.  It was known to be “a thriving faith community that formed part of the spiritual backbone of the area.”   As its facility aged and parking became a challenge, the church purchased the property for its present location.  The first service here was held on May 22, 1994.

OUR PRESENT:  Today we are a small, but growing church affiliated with American Baptist Churches USA.  We believe in the authority of Scripture and its relevance for how we live as God's people today.  The proclamation of the Word is important to us as we seek to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ and learn what it means to be His disciples.

OUR VISION:  We desire to be Christ-followers who love and serve one another and our community as we grow in our love for Jesus Christ.

OUR INVITATION:  We invite you to "come and see" what the Lord is doing!

Join us for worship and study.  Participate with us in ministry!
